Qaqqaliaq – Whale Watching Spot
Qaqqaliaq. Stretching across a picturesque landscape, this hiking trail spans approximately 3 kilometers, offering an engaging outdoor adventure suitable for hikers of various skill levels. Commencing at an elevation of 30 meters above sea level, the journey promises a delightful mix of terrain, including both rocky surfaces and occasional marshy areas. This trail is an excellent choice for those seeking an immersive experience in Greenland’s natural beauty.
As you make your way toward qaqqaliaq, you might encounter telecommunication buildings adorned with wires. To ensure your safety and the integrity of the infrastructure, it is strongly recommended to refrain from approaching or interfering with these wires during your hike.
Upon arriving at Qaqqaliaq, prepare to be awe-struck by the jaw-dropping vistas that await you. With the vast expanse of the open sea stretching out before your eyes, punctuated by towering icebergs, the scenery is nothing short of mesmerizing. Keep a keen lookout, as you might be lucky enough to spot the majestic Greenlandic whale (except during the winter), and the skies above may be graced by a variety of birds, adding a symphony of nature’s sounds to your unforgettable hiking experience.
What to bring & know
- Bring your water bottle and snacks with you.
- Use goretex boots. Also fine with sneakers during the summer.
- Bring mosquito net during the summer and use sunscreen.
- You should let someone know that you are hiking. For safety reasons we recommend you to hike with another person.
- Chech the weather forecast before you go: DMI, yr, windy,
- Use the toilet before you go – there are no facilities on the trail.
- Do not litter. Bring every litter with you.
- Do not make any new hiking routes, use excisting hiking routes.
- Protect the environment. Do not built new cairns and not disturbing existing ones.
