Ikerasaarsuk is located approximately 35 km south of Kangaatsiaq and 12 km west of Iginniarfik. Alternatively known as Illukoq, meaning “the old house,” Ikerasaarsuk officially achieved settlement status in 1993.
Ikerasaarsuk stands as a pearl on the archipelago coast, surrounded by numerous small and large islands that add to its unique charm. What sets this destination apart is the presence of open water almost all year round, providing a breathtaking backdrop for romantic getaways and immersive experiences.
One of the characteristics of Ikerasaarsuk is the kelp forests that extend up to 15 meters in length. The area is not far from hunting areas. Trout, salmon, and capelin are also an important part of the catch, as are seals, which are caught both in nets and from the ice. Reindeer hunting has been a tradition for many decades, – characterizes the summer and winter, where January and February involves dogsled hunting to Nassuttooq from Ikerasaarsuk, which was normal in the 1960s.
