How to get to diskobay

Commercial airlines are the only way for travelers to get to Greenland. Air Greenland, Greenland’s national airline operates regular flights from Copenhagen to the main international airport in Nuuk. Icelandair also operates seasonal flights between Keflavik to our neighboring town Ilulissat, while United Airlines operates seasonal flights from New York/Newark to Nuuk.

Air Greenland services all major towns and several settlements with domestic flights and helicopter connections year round.

Sailing is another means of transportation to Greenland.

Departing from Denmark to Diskobay

AirGreenland flies all year around from Copenhagen to Nuuk, and the flight time is about 4.5 hours.

From March 17 to October 26, Jettime offers direct flights from Billund to Nuuk every Tuesday. On Thursdays, travelers can fly from Billund to Nuuk via Keflavik, Iceland. There are also scheduled flights from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq from March 17 to October 30.

Your first destination in Greenland will be Nuuk, you will then take a domestic flight to Aasiaat, which is the only town in the region with an airport. 

Departing from Iceland to Diskobay

AirGreenland flies from Keflavik to Ilulissat from March to October few times a week. 

 Icelandair also flies to Ilulissat 2 times a week during the winter – 1st of March 2025- 29th of March 2025  and 9 times during the summer – 2nd of June 2025 – 30th of September 2025.

If you are flying from Iceland, your first destination in Greenland will be Ilulissat, you will then take a domestic flight to Aasiaat, which is the only town in the region with an airport.

Departing from United States to Diskobay

United Airlines flies from New York/Newark to Nuuk from 14 June – 23 Sept 2025 two times a week, you will then take a domestic flight to Aasiaat, which is the only town in the region with an airport. 

If you are heading to other destinations in SUMMER: 

You will have to rely on boat transportation during the summer months. You can book your boat travel at Diskoline, Arctic Umiaq Line or get in touch with local operators directly.

If you are heading to other destinations in WINTER: 

During the winter months, you will need to use a helicopter for travel. You can book your helicopter flights to at airgreenland. When the sea ice permits, you may have the opportunity to explore other destinations by snowmobile or dogsled, guided by local operators.

By sea to Disko Bay

There are no ferry connections between Greenland and Iceland or Denmark. However, some cruise shipping companies are choosing to include Diskobay on their itineraries.
