Illunnguit, a mesmerizing destination nestled amidst rocky terrains and pristine lakes. This 14-kilometer journey promises a mix of challenges and breathtaking scenery, making it a must-try for avid hikers and nature enthusiasts.

The path to Illunnguit is clearly pianted with red that guide you across the terrain. Prepare for a varied terrain, primarily rocky, with muddy parts depending on recent weather conditions. The red markings give a reassuring presence, keeping you on track through the various terrain.

About halfway through your journey, you’ll come to a part where the route drops and ascends.The terrain here may be covered in loose rocks, needing a slow and careful pace.

With elevation changes ranging from 0 to 100 meters, Illunnguit’s trail gracefully introduces hikers to the natural rhythm of the landscape. Along the way, encounter pristine lakes that reflect the tranquility of the surroundings. The gentle inclines and declines ensure a pleasurable hike, allowing adventurers to immerse themselves fully in the sights and sounds of the untouched wilderness.

Follow the red markers and traditional cairns that punctuate the trail, guiding you towards Illunnguit’s summit. These markers not only ensure a clear path but also add a touch of cultural richness to your journey. What to bring & know

  • Bring your water bottle and snacks with you. We recommend you to hike in the morning and have a lunch Illunnguit (carry lunch).
  • Use goretex boots. 
  • Bring mosquito net during the summer and use sunscreen.
  • You should let someone know that you are hiking. For safety reasons we recommend you to hike with another person.
  • Chech the weather forecast before you go: DMI, yr, windy,
  • Use the toilet before you go – there are no facilities on the trail.
  • Do not litter. Bring every litter with you. 
  • Do not make any new hiking routes, use excisting hiking routes. 
  • Protect the environment. Do not built new cairns and not disturbing existing ones.
