Qorlortorsuaq – The Waterfall 

 Nestled amidst the captivating landscapes of Disko Island lies the Qorlortorsuaq  a 2.6-kilometer trek that promises an unforgettable experience for outdoor enthusiasts. This trail offers a unique blend of rugged terrain, natural beauty, and a touch of unpredictability, making it a must-visit destination for adventurous hikers.

Prepare for a strenuous journey due to the terrain’s roughness and occasional rockiness. Be aware that this route has been affected by the changing climate. Recent years have witnessed heavy summer rains that have significantly altered the trail. Hikers should be prepared for unexpected changes in the path due to erosion caused by these weather events.

As you embark on your journey, you’ll encounter a choice: whether to cross the bridge or continue without it. If you choose to cross, a left turn will lead you further into the adventure. These choices will shape the course of your hike, allowing you to customize your experience.

Upon reaching your destination, you’ll be treated to a breathtaking sight – a waterfall cascading from the glacier atop the island. The enchanting beauty of this natural wonder is sure to captivate your senses. The view from this vantage point is nothing short of awe-inspiring, making the hike’s worth.

What to bring & know

  • Bring your water bottle and snacks with you. We recommend you to hike in the morning and have a lunch on top of the mountain (carry lunch).
  • Use goretex boots. 
  • Bring mosquito net during the summer and use sunscreen.
  • You should let someone know that you are hiking. For safety reasons we recommend you to hike with another person.
  • Chech the weather forecast before you go: DMI, yr, windy,
  • Use the toilet before you go – there are no facilities on the trail.
  • Do not litter. Bring every litter with you. 
  • Do not make any new hiking routes, use excisting hiking routes. 
  • Protect the environment. Do not built new cairns and not disturbing existing ones.
