King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark are about to embark on a significant journey to Aasiaat, Qeqertarsuaq, and the settlement of Attu.
This visit will be their first since assuming their roles as king and queen, making it a special occasion. It marks their initial opportunity to connect with these communities in their new capacities as monarchs.
Before them, Queen Margrethe and her late husband, Prince Henrik, had already visited Aasiaat, Qeqertarsuaq, and Attu. This means that while it won't be the first time these towns have hosted royalty, it continues a tradition of royal engagement with these regions.
This upcoming visit by King Frederik and Queen Mary reaffirms the royal family's commitment to these communities and underscores the ongoing bond between the monarchy and the people of Aasiaat, Qeqertarsuaq, and Attu. It's a moment eagerly awaited by both the royals and the residents, symbolizing continuity and respect for these significant parts of the kingdom.
Program for the visit on June 29th:
- 18:45: Arrival at Aasiaat Airport. The major Ane Hansen and the municipal director will welcome King and Queen.
- 19:00: Cannon salute from the municipal council and locals to welcome the king and queen. Choir singing.
- 19:15: Unveiling of a memorial plaque.
- 20:00-20:15: Departure towards Dannebrog and sailing towards Qeqertarsuaq, where they will spend the night near the town.
Program for the visit on June 30th:
- 09:45: Arrival at Naasorsiooqarfik Qeqertarsuaq.
- 11:45: Mayor Ane Hansen and a municipal council member will welcome the King and Queen at the King's Bridge.
- 15:00-16:00: Qeqertarsuaq Race - Family Mile. The King will start the race. The King and Queen will have the opportunity to participate in the walk/run.
- 17:00: Departure towards Qeqertarsuaq. Cannon salute as a farewell.
Program for the visit on July 1st:
- 10:00: Arrival at Attu.
- 10:00-10:15: Mayor Ane Hansen and a municipal council member will welcome the King and Queen.
- 10:30-11:15: Walking tour around the settlement.
- 11:15-12:45: Kaffemik for the locals with entertainment and music. The municipality will present a gift to the royal couple.
- 12:45-13:00: From the community house to the harbor.
- 13:00: Departure to Sisimiut.
