The brief Summer of Disko Bay

The summer is short in Greenland and very changeable.  The season starts proper in June and finishes sometime in early September, but the snow can sometimes arrive earlier or later.

Summer in the Disko Bay is characterized by long bright days, colorful flowers, and lush meadows. As Disko Bay is located north of the arctic circle, the sun does not set during the summer.

Like a prolonged sunset and sunrise all at once, this natural phenomenon colors heaven and earth in a warm yellowish light. The midnight sun gives life and warmth, and it is during the short summertime you will see the locals out and about, enjoying the sun after a long and cold winter with polar nights, hiking, sailing, and barbecuing in the nature, in general lots of Greenlanders spend their summer out in the nature. Outdoor recreation is a mayor part of our national identity.

During the summer you can go on the most beautiful sailing trips around the Disko Bay, where you can sail between the golden, glistening, large icebergs, and you will most probably meet some whales during the trip, as summer is the prime time for whale watching.
